Turkey for Passover?

Ready, set, Go
I photographed Shayla, a high school track star today for teh Detroit News. I was mostly happy with how the photos worked out. I liked this shot but didn't send it to the News. The one I sent had more light on her face. I also hated the background. But the track was in a neighboorhood in Detroit and all the way around were power lines, telephone poles and cars so getting a clean background was tough.

What a great Lady!!
I met the sweetest lady tonight while on assignment, Jeanne Fowler. She was getting a Hero's award from the Red Cross for her work on the organization she started years ago called Big Family of Michigan. She helps to try and make the lives of kids in foster care better and to get the word out about child abuse. Also, Jeanne was abused, no wait tortured as a child and watched her own mother torture and kill her 3 year old brother. Jeanne talks openly about how she and her brother were tied to their walls and beaten every day. It's not easy to hear but you MUST listen. They are stories some people don't want to hear on the news. But damn if more people paid attention and saw the torture these kids go through maybe we could save many more of these kids! I have personal feeling about what we should do to those who abuse kids but I won't go into that. People just need to know how bad some kids are treated. Please help Jeanne by volunteering or donating to her cause. Go to www.bigfamilyofmichigan.org to read her story and to help.
Sorry!
For the lack of photos this week. I have been sick with a cold and tied down doing taxes!
Ugh!

Hiking at Maybury State Park
Arteeest!
I just got my 12-24mm lens back and was shooting some test frames. This is the crazy man, my son Max, doing some watercolor painting.
High School Hoops

I shot high school basketball playoffs in Detroit in Friday night. This was probably the best I got. I am a little rusty and I am still having focus issues with my Nikon D2X. I am sooooooo close to finally switching to Canon. This old dog is also trying a few new tricks. I am using 2 flashes controled by a radio remote to get the light in this shot. In the old days with film you just pushed it and it worked. Digital just hates low light and high school gyms are always lit BAD! So I am trying some new things and learning new things like those at the blog strobist.com, check it out.

Indoor practice!
Shot a golf show for the News on Sunday. I tried to come up with something interesting but this is the best I got. I was tired and feeling not so creative, plus it was golf!
Another concert shot.

Late night, early morning.

I shot this about 2:00 AM this morning after finishing up shooting for the night at a few bars/clubs in Hamtramck. I edited some when I got home and got to bed about 3:30. I've been to more clubs, to shoot photo assignments, in the last 6 months then in the last ten years. I was never much of a club guy but they can be interesting to shoot.
Friday Night Blues.

Well not really. I was shooting the Metro Times Blowout again in Hamtramck for the Detroit News last night. Ths is the lead singer for Siddhartha. Not the blues at all. Go HERE to learn more about them and their music. I took a chance on this shot with real low light and a little underexposed but it worked out ok. ASA was 800 and the exposure was 1/60 at f2.8 with a 200mm lens. I lightened it up a little in Photoshop.

Detroit Rock City

I shot the launch party of the Metro Times Blowout music festival for the Detroit News last night at the Majestic Music Complez in Detroit. This is Guitarist Danny Methric performing with The Muggs at the Magic Stick. I had someone tell me he might be the best guitarist in Detroit right now. He was good! And there is something great about seeing a good hard rock blues band in a real small bar in Detroit. I liked this classic guitar shot form the night. Ddin't get done and to bed until 3:00 AM. I am getting old for these late night assignments but I usually enjoy them.

Another dog show photo

Monday, March 05, 2007

Another shot from the dog show in Detroit. This image was in todays Detroit News with a few others today. I was there on Saturday and then back again on Sunday when I shot this image. The News was short on photographers with the Tara Grant missing person/murder case/man hunt ofr her husband breaking all weekend.
BTW the image was shot at 1/15 of a second at f/4 and I panned with the guy and dog, for those that are interested, KIM!

30 seconds with Jamie Foxx

I was shooting for Getty Images last night, for Laforce Stevens (PR) for Belvedere Vodka. They had set up for me to shoot the arrival shot (above) with the other photographers and then we were suppose to have 10 minutes with Jamie at the VIP area. Things changed and we didn't get it. I felt bad for my contact person from Laforce Stevens working PR for Belvedere because she coudn't get the shots she had hoped for. Thats the way entertainment/celebrity gigs go sometimes. This is the short story.
Dancing Girls and Foo-Foo Dogs

Ok, ok, so I missed posting for a few days. So here are two from Saturaday. The dog show in Detroit from the afternoon and a club dancer at Plan B nightclub in the D from Saturday night.

Nice Booty.
