DRIVERS TRAINING - NASCAR STYLE

I photographed a group of people taking part in the Richard Petty Driving Experience out at Michigan International Speedway today. After some instruction andsafety info the each took a turn driving 8 laps around the MIS track following another car driven by an instructor . The speeds were around 140 mph and the had to stay about 3 car lengths behind the front car, no passing. It sure looked like fun! Lots of smiles and thumbs up! Its something I have always wanted to do. Maybe someday.

Stock Photo Research the George Carlin way.

Ok the people over at photoshelter pay tribute to the late George Carlin in their own way.
DO NOT look if you are easily offended. It involves his famous "7 dirty words"
Number 5 is, well, Wow.

Rain, Rain go away

For the Capture The Moment class.
Ok so I'm watching the radar as it rains like crazy here in Novi/Northville.
But it looks like it will clear out before 6:00.
We could still get wet at some point during class so you might want to bring a raincoat or umbrella.

JUST FOR FUN

My four year old son loves race cars and really loves NASCAR, probably because of the Disney/Pixar movie Cars which we have watched mor etimes then I can count. Anyway the NASCAR race is in Michigan this weekend, no I'm not shooting it, and the #20 car was at a local Home Depot. I took some photos of him with the car and then him and I were playing around shooting photos while zooming which he thought was real cool. Then I played with the image in Photoshop just a little bit which he also thought was cool. My point is sometimes you just have to shoot a photo or photos for fun. Not for editors, not for publications, not even so it will be that good or that you would ever show anyone. Just for fun.

STROM CHASING WITH APRIL AND MATT

Well not really but a storm chased us, right into the library building on the campus of Michigan State University. So really bad storms were working their way across Michigan and hit East Lansing right around 4:00 PM when we going to start shooting their e-pics, outside. So as we were walking to the area we were shooting at the wind, picked up then the rain and we ran into the building. The tornado sirens started blaring and a Doppler radar indicated tornado was in Lansing moving our way so we went to the basement of the library.

A little bit after that we went back outside and started shooting, wet, drizzle and all.

So with other people across Michigan picking up after the storm we made some real nice portraits.

A little kiss while waiting out the storm in the basement of the library.

STANLEY CUP IN HOCKEYTOWN

No I didn't shoot the game. But the wings in the finals was good for me because it meant photo assignments and needed work. The Detroit News sent me to St. Clair Shores as part of their photo coverage of game 6 last night that the Red Wings won.

I was at the home of Todd Richards who hosted a Red Wings party on the front lawn of his home. A tradition he started every time the Wings have been in the finals the last few years. He buys a big screen TV with money he raises selling raffle tickets to win the TV after the finals are over. Cool idea I though and a fun way to have family and friends watch the game. Their were about 40 people on his front lawn.

Looking Back: So I shot this image of Steve Yzerman hoisting the cup in the air when the Wings won back in 97. I was working with Reuters News Service as a film tech, yes remember film? I processed most of the film in a darkroom, ah bathroom, during the game. After the game they wanted all the main photographers and us two runners/techs in different locations around the arena to photograph the players with the cup. It was one of the big thrills of my photo career. I know several papers in Europe and Russia publish photos I had of Sergei Fedorov with the cup.
